Verbal Audio Demos
The following demos illustrates early prototype design of the DELCA ghosts voices and user interaction with the ghosts. The DELCA ghosts are audio-animated with advanced speech synthesis technologies and the user interaction is done by voice recognition technologies. The demos are made as a consecutive story, which describes how a fictive user (Peter Mikkelsen) is introduced to the realm of DELCA.
Scenario 1: "Welcome to DELCA" (The Butler Ghost)
"...A student at the ITU is situated in the cantina area. The user is accessing the wireless network at the ITU for the first time and is spontaneously contacted by the DELCA butler ghost . The ghost provides a brief introduction to the wireless network. He presents the user an example of the DELCA technology by telling the user where he is currently standing and what noticeable objects and people are within the user’s visual vicinity. The ghost continues by given a short introduction to the DELCA project and what potentials DELCA can offer the user..."
Scenario 2: "Into the Realm" (DELCA interface Ghost)
"...The user was briefly introduced to the wireless network of the ITU in scenario 1. This scenario continues where the first scenario ends. The user says: “Ghost call” and the Secretary ghost appears. The user is guided into the DELCA voice interface and asked to fill out the DELCA registration formula. The introduction continues after user, Peter Mikkelsen, is registrated and the scenario ends by the user being introduced to the “Muse” ghost, which is a content specific ghost dedicated towards streaming and playing music on user requests..."
Scenario 3: "Amusement" (The Muse Ghost)
"...The user was introduced to the DELCA audio interface in scenario 2. In the end of the scenario the Secretary ghost informed the user about the presence of the DELCA Muse Ghost . This scenario describes the fictive user, Peter Mikkelsen, encountering Muse, which is a DELCA ghost designed to play music on request. Muse is a content specific ghost and her domain is strictly limited to debating topics related to music. She is connected to a databank of mp3 files and the scenario gives two examples of mp3 files being streamed. Additionally the expression of Muse is a designed with cross-socio-cultural properties in mind. This can be heard in her English-Pakistanian dialect and her choice of background ambiences. The scenario differs from the two previous scenarios, as the user is asked to communicate verbally with the Muse ghost..."
Scenario 4: "Abusement" (The Thin Lizzy and Butler Ghost)
"...The user was introduced to the DELCA music (muse) audio interface in scenario 3. In the end of the scenario the Muse ghost told the user that the Butler needed he attention. This scenario describes the fictive user, Peter Mikkelsen, encountering both the Butler Ghost and the Thin Lizzy Ghost . Thin Lizzy is a content specific ghost and her domain is strictly limited to debating topics related to cantina and food. Both the Butler and Thin Lizzy Ghost have the ability to generate ambient sounds and music, which is shown in the scenario. The scenario differs from the previous scenarios, because it is the first time that the user listen to ghost generated room ambiences, ghost generated action sounds and encounter dialogue between two different ghosts..."
Scenario 5: "In Motion " (The Physical Joe Ghost)
"...The user was introduced to the DELCA, Thin Lizzy ghost in scenario 4. The scenario ended by a troublesome confrontation between the user, the Thin Lizzy ghost and the Butler Ghost. This scenario describes the fictive user, Peter Mikkelsen, encountering both the Butler Ghost and the Physical Joe ghost . Physical Joe is a content specific ghost and her domain is strictly limited to debating topics related to exercise. Both the Butler and Physical Joe have the ability to generate ambient sounds and music, which is shown in the scenario..."
Scenario 6: "To The Library" (The Albert and Rose Ghost)
"...The user was introduced to the DELCA, Physical Joe in scenario 5. The scenario was concluded by. This scenario describes the fictive user, Peter Mikkelsen, in his contuining experiences with DELCA ghost. The scenario starts by the user accessing the DELCA main interface and talking briefly to the Secretary ghost. The user is looking at other options in the DELCA system. He finds out that there is a Library ghost , which is fine because he needs to order a specific book. The library ghost, Albert, is a content specific ghost, who is limited in providing materials, booking books, in relation to the ITU library service. The user orders a book by using the library service and access the DELCA main interface ones again, where he briefly tests out the Rose dating ghost. The scenario slowly fades out as the user starts accessing the dating system and browse amongst his fellow students..."
